Venice

After our adventures in Florence, we headed out on a bus to Venice. On the way we stopped in a little town called Padova. We went into the Scrovegni Chapel to see Giotto's frescoes there. (Tasha - Giotto's Entombment was here). These frescoes are nothing like the ones I say on the slides in class - they are WAY better! I don't even have the words to describe them. They were breath-taking and I wanted to just lie down on the floor and stair up at them all day. They were way better in person. AH! I love this! We also couldn't take any pictures, so you will just have to Google Giotto to see them.
When we got here we had to take what is called a "people mover" which takes you over the water to the other island. (It's really called that - my ticket even says People Mover on it.) And then heft our luggage over a couple bridges and walk quite a ways to get to our hotels, since the buses couldn't drive on the normal streets.

Yes, Venice is just like they show is on the postcards or in photos. Every street is cute and picturesque and the gondolas and men in striped shirts are everywhere.

There are also Mardi Gras masks everywhere - and I mean everywhere! There are also lost of glass jewelry shops. It was really fun....but easy to get lost in. No, I did not get lost, but we did attempt to try to get to Murano (the island where all the glass is actually made), but we missed our stop, so we ended up just getting a long ride on the water taxi and having to run through the streets to make it to the church we were visiting as a group, at the same time as everyone else.

We only spent two days in Venice, so it was a quick stop on the way to Vienna, but it was great! Venice also stunk, but not as bad as Florence. My only regret is not going on a gondola with a handsome Italian man in stripes....but it would have cost me like 100 Euros for like 15 minutes. Not worth it. I think our tickets for the water taxi were like 8 Euros, and we were on that boat for an hour and a half! Score!
