Munich

We got to Munich late and didn't go out onto the town that night. The hotel in Munich only had free wifi in the lobby of the hotel. We were in Munich for three full days, a whole day longer than Vienna! The first day we went to the Alte Pinakotek and Neue Pinakotek. (The Old and New Painting Galleries) They were some of the longest museum visits we've seen so far, but we saw some amazing paintings. Here are a couple:

Albrecht Durer was a talented man

Beautiful German script

Painting

Amazing detail in this thing

One of the rooms hung in Salon style with painting above each other

The second day was Sunday, so we went to a German ward - no translator this time - then had the rest of the day free. These were the hours we spent traveling the hour metro/bus ride to Dachau, the first Concentration Camp in Germany. I was enormous, and a very interesting experience. Just walking in the front gate I could feel the quiet presence of thousands of starved, tortured souls. There was a video shown in the main building, and then we were free to walk through the rest of the museum and around the camp. It was unreal.

The words on the door say "Work makes you free."
They believed it was only a work camp....

This was something that took a lot of courage to see, but that I will never regret doing. :D

a spoon from one of the prisoners

a jew badge and a sketch of the starved prisoners

where they were expected to sleep. their beds were like stalls

the bath house. one many hung himself from the spout

We stayed up pretty late that night talking - a small group of us - because we were going to have the whole next day on the bus to Paris. We made some great memories and become closer friends! :D
